Based on the principles of the sovereign equality of States, independence, interdependence and unity of action, the APA intends to invent an unprecedented supra-regional cooperation, creative and full of promise, with a political and economic potential that is both African and global, uncomplicated and proactive.
In particular, ABS aims to achieve the following objectives:
- To create a unity of solidarity and constructive, positive interaction between member countries in order to voice and defend the common and individual interests of member states;
- Defend the territorial integrity, sovereignty and interests of its members.
- Build consensus around issues of common interest, and speak with one voice where needed;
- Support member countries politically, diplomatically, militarily and economically;
- Support the efforts of the member countries concerned in the fight against violent extremism, terrorism and the harmful actions of non-state armed groups;
- Create a dynamic of economic development and institutional strengthening among member states.
